Jersey Girl, California Dreamin’

Meet Sam

It all began with a solo trip to Southern California. As I wandered through galleries in Pacific Palisades and Malibu and craft shows in Santa Barbara and Venice, I was inspired by the art I saw. One of my favorite things is to watch the sunset over the water. I find just looking at the ocean waves quiets all the noise in my head. I can forget about all the things I am supposed to be doing and just relax. When I saw the art done with epoxy resin made to look like ocean waves, I was drawn to it.

I found myself at a craft fair in Santa Barbara talking to a very kind woman, Joan, who made waves on coasters and platters, and I started to ask a lot of questions. She was gracious with her time and convinced me that I could make art. What? I’m the right-brained, type A woman you see on the right. I’m not artist. I only aspire to be able to do that. With Joan’s guidance, hours of youtube videos and nights practicing in my garage, I got better. I began to make items that I gave as gifts and then started to sell my pieces at craft shows in local shops on the east coast. Eventually, I started working with interior decorators to custom make pieces for their clients.

With the support of my two biggest cheerleaders (pictured below), I have found a way to bring my dream of living in California to New Jersey lifestyle. I’m still California Dreamin’, and I’ll move out there someday, but for now I’ll just keep making waves.
